GSS Piling Complete Challenge for Action Medical

We are proud to continue to support Action Medical Research: the leading UK-wide charity dedicated to funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people.

This year, GSS Piling entered a team of four into the triathlon-style ‘Race The Sun’ challenge in aid of the charity. The team, made up of Martin Pedley, Hugh Gabriel, William Peres and Alex Anderson, cycled, hiked, and canoed around the breath-taking area of Coniston in the Lake District before the sun set on 16 July.

Race The Sun Coniston 2022 was an extremely tough event around Coniston’s challenging terrain, featuring a 22-mile cycle with a 2500 ft ascent, a two-mile course by canoe on Coniston Water and a 5.5 mile summit of the Old Man Of Coniston, one of the Lake District's most iconic peaks with an altitude of 803 metres.  

GSS mounted a brilliant effort, smashing its fundraising target by 150% to raise a total of £2,700. Huge congratulations to the team. The money raised will help to fund vital medical research to improve the lives of sick babies and children. Click here if you’d like to donate >

More About Action Medical

Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs for 70 years. Its research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. 30% of children with rare diseases will lose their lives before the age of 5. Champions of CycleSport

Each year, we also support and attend Action Medical’s flagship fundraising event, the Champions of CycleSport fundraising dinner. A few of our own cycling enthusiasts - Martin Pedley, Neil Abbott, Paul Cluskey, Paul Moody and Brian Morrisroe - joined a superstar line up of Olympic and Paralympic Champions at this year’s event to celebrate cycling and raise further funds.
