Piling

We have the capability to install piles with diameters from 200mm to 2500mm, and depths exceeding 50m using our fleet of mini-piling and full-scale piling rigs. Our in-house design team has the expertise to design both geotechnical and structural elements, including pile caps and rafts. We can also design and install structural sections or plunge columns into the piles to facilitate top-down construction, or other temporary works. We also undertake the integrity and load testing of piles to ensure design performance and client specifications are met

We construct bearing piles to transfer structural loads into the ground to a suitable soil stratum and to limit structural movements. We construct retaining walls to support the ground around excavations in many applications from building basements to shafts for underground structures, to transporting infrastructure such as bridge abutments and tunnel walls. A variety of retaining wall types can be constructed, including contiguous walls, secant walls (hard-soft, hard-firm and hard-hard) and kingpost walls. Our specialist design team is always on hand to analyse and optimise structural and construction sequencing requirements.

Underpinning

We provide specialist underpinning services, to depths of up to 9m. Our team of highly trained engineers and operatives have extensive experience designing and implementing robust shoring arrangements and confined space safety systems. We prefer to install deep single stage underpins as an alternative to forming underpins in multiple phases. This offers multiple benefits, such as minimising the number of phases of loading, reducing progressive building settlements, achieving continuity of reinforcement, and reduced construction cycle time. Where there is sensitivity to the smallest movements, pre-loading between the underpins and existing structures can also be introduced.

Pynford Beams

Originally developed as a reinforced concrete solution for underpinning, we now offer pynford beams for a wider range of applications. Additional applications include structural openings, or where working space is limited pynford beams can be a component of a temporary works scheme. This solution can also be used to enable the installation of reinforced concrete beams and steel beams.

In the right circumstances pynford beams can also form a single beam opening, a simple column/beam opening or a full box frame. This can enable an entire building to be modified to an open plan arrangement. We can also install beams under occupied premises by using sacrificial beam supports within the walls instead of temporary works needles.

We have extensive experience designing and developing a range other structural support options including needles and stooling, and related temporary works schemes.

Structural Jacking and Moving

We are experts in structural jacking and in the moving of structures. Jacking is used to transfer loads from temporary works to new permanent works to ensure structural movements to original structures are minimised as openings are created, and when loads are transferred to new foundations. Jacks can also be used to raise or lower existing structures or buildings.

Project experience includes warranty backed multi-story basements below the water table and exceeding 11m depth.

Our piling rigs work in multiple modes giving us the ability to deploy a variety of piling methods; continuous flight auger (cfa), sectional flight auger (sfa), dry bored rotary piles, segmentally cased piles and piles under drilling fluid.  We have particular expertise in operating our modern fleet of machines machines in restricted access and limited headroom situations.
