With the aim of cleaning up the River Thames, the Thames Tideway Tunnel is a 25 km long “super sewer”. We were delighted to have been appointed to piling services for this substantial scheme.
Our scope included the completion of an embedded hard-firm secant pile retaining wall to form the perimeter wall for an air treatment chamber. Additionally, we installed reservation tubes for inclinometers as well as thermal integrity profile (TIP) testing and the provision of piling attendances. We carried out pre-start trials and testing of the proposed concrete mixes too, making use of the on-site UKAS accredited testing laboratories operated by BMB JV.

The piles were installed with rotary bored piling techniques using 880 mm diameter segmental casing. All piles were 14.5 m in depth and were completed in a single site visit, using our Soilmec SR-75 piling rig.
