Situated on the south of the Thames right next to Tower Bridge, is One Tower Bridge, a prestigious housing development. Its nine blocks provide a total of 396 residential units, as well as commercial offices, cultural spaces and a single-storey basement area.
We delivered extensive substructure and superstructure works, which included nine mixed-use blocks, a single-level waterproof basement structure which provided an underground swimming and leisure suite, and basement car park. We were also instrumental in helping to deliver 65,000 sqft of cultural space. Reinforced concrete works for the nine residential blocks were built concurrently and delivered two months ahead of schedule.

Following the demolition of the previously reinforced concrete basement and piled walls, we carried out a 70,000 sqm bulk excavation and remediation exercise. Basement works involved the construction of new foundations and piling.

We managed over 100 HGV truck movements per day via Potters Field and Tooley Street and ensured the safe arrival and erection of site cranes during the 2012 Olympic Games as well as during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee pageant along the River Thames from the Albert Bridge to Tower Bridge.
Technical Challenges
04
To achieve large column spacing along the river front, substantial 2 m wide drop beams were used. Additional challenges involved the elaborate offset and compensation applied to the 25-storey tower to control settlement and shortening as the building settled into its final position.
